Formatting the Cryptainer Volume
Return to Introduction  Previous  Next

If you are trying to create a vault that is large (more than 2 GB) we strongly recommend that this be done on a drive that is NTFS formatted.

Once, the Cryptainer volume is created, it needs to be further formatted. On these large volumes, we suggest that you choose "NTFS" as the appropriate format.

Then, once the Cryptainer volume is created, it needs to be further formatted (by Windows) as an 'NTFS' drive that appears and behaves like a hard drive.

Please do note that the drive on which the Cryptainer volume file is being created, ought to be NTFS formatted in the first instance. i.e one cannot make a NTFS disk on a hard drive that is FAT32 formatted.

During/After creation of a Cryptainer volume, when you see the format dialog, the reference is to the Cryptainer volume that you have created on your external disk. The disk on which the Cryptainer volume is created is not affected.
